I have a chance to buy a John Deere F935 with a 72" deck. The mower has the Yanmar diesel. I think I can get it for around $3000. It was owned by a city parks department. I'm confident that it was maintained well, but it has 2350 hours. It runs well, has no unusual vibrations and everything seems to work. I didn't note any oil leaks, but will do a closer inspection before purchase. Is this something worth considering, or am I asking for a maintenance/repair nightmare? Thanks.

In 2006 I got my 1988 model year F935 off a golf course with 3500 hours for a few bucks less then your quote...mechanically it was dealer serviced and was in top shape...Appearance wise she was rough...fixed everything up mechanically & appearance and today she's got 3800 hours and runs like a top. It would take alot more then 3k to drive away with mine today...I love it.
