John Deere 820
Good morning folks I'm new to the web site and just thought I'd say hello. I'm the proud owner of a 1974 820.

Welcome bro'.

I think I got you beat though. We have an 820 at the farm that was bought new in 1969 (I think) and it's still working. Great tractor. It's a chugging, tugging son-of-a-gun considering it's size and age. It was always my M-I-L's tractor until she had to quit mowing at 85-years old. I always loved it. For some reason I always felt safer on it when running slopes than on any of the newer, bigger ones.

Stick around and post often.

There was a JD model 820 (two cyl diesel) big, heavy tractor built in the late 50's.
70+ hp and weighed almost 8000 lbs.

Another JD model 820 with a 3 cyl diesel 32 hp was built in the late 60's early 70's. Weighed about 4000 lbs. Expect this one is the latter. :)

These are nice simple tractors that are just about bullet proof. Bought mine used in 1996, refreshed it in 1997 with new clutch, seat, steering wheel, waterpump, hoses, belts, paint and tires. Added a canopy with rops in 2005.

Michael lets see some pics of yours and 'Welcome' to the forum.:D

Here are two pics I have posted before on the forum from last year with my new 4520. One of my guys are trying out the new field cultivator to loosen an old mound.

Thanks AK and Thomas for the compliments, this is a great tractor and I have spent many hours working with it. Nice to be able to work it with the other two since it reduces changing implements on landscape jobs.

With my 820 The only 2 things i have had a issue with are #1 rear pto output houseing bearing and seal went out... think it was due to driver erroe and it was pressing on it. #2 the diesel inj pump (roto-diesel) failed a few years ago and we had it rebuilt... was told something about running onroad fuel in it was the pump killer. well I waslooking at hte 820 and doing a pre premow check and the oil level was 4" over the high level mark. and its way thin. My uncle has the same unit and said it was the 2 seals on the shaft on the pump. well they look fine but im gonna drop the 20$ and change thenm anyway. and i hope this fixes the over full level. yea yea im gonna drop the oil.
