Im looking for 11 inch depth bands for my planter 71. Want to start planting small seed vegetables and am looking for the change over base plate for small seed plates for planting cucumbers and beet size seeds. Been using my planter just for corn so need the switch over bottom. Cause i cant control the depth of seeding with my 3 point hitch accurate enough for the small seed im looking for 11 inch bands. Any suggestions? Thanx.

Used to be able to get a bunch of planter parts on eBay. You may also need the hill drop attachment for that planter, placing cucumber seed. I was never able to find one.

You need to look at EBAY nearly every day. All sizes show up but are often gone quickly. Just keep looking.

There was someone on EBAY maybe a year or longer ago that had new made ones in all sizes.

Is the problem just planting in rough soil that has been recently cultivated and gives an uneven seed depth? I had that issue and solved it in two ways. On a prior planter I made a front press wheel packer assembly similar to the original JD accessory. It worked great by smoothing and pressing the ground flat.

On my current 71 I just make a better seedbed with a roller-packer and then plant through that. I don't need a depth band that way because the ground is smooth and the planter stays very accurate.

Its mostly that my garden is rolling..when i come over a hill and the front of my tractor comes up the 3 point hitch naturally goes deeper. With the smaller seed the debt is more critical with not planting too deep.

I see what you mean. What model tractor do you have and do you have draft control? How are you prepping the soil and do you have an owner's manual? What seeds are you planting?

Actually I plan on mounting it under my Model G. I have been using it for corn on my Kubota Mx5200. Been using a planet junior for all my small seed.. Carrots. Beets. Cucumbers. Parcley. Spinach. Parsnips. Beans. Peas. Planet junior just doesn't cut it anymore for me! I usually just harrow for a seedbed. My soil is fairly loose.

The JD 71 was sold to Yetter so I presently have a Yetter 71 planter that I got a good deal on and sold my JD71 planter. It's almost an exact copy of the JD 71. Anyway, I fix my drawbar height and down pressure on the wheel and the flex arms on the side that "flex" with the planter to stay in the ground despite minor ground variation. Yours is be the same.

Your planter should "float" with the ground contour and that movement is affected by the flexing of the arms and the press wheel down pressure. I've attached the Yetter 71 owner's manual for you to read. I sold my JD 71 owner's manual with the last planter but someone here must have one. I'm sure the Yetter 71 and JD 71 are nearly identical.

Read the manual, look at your planter, check the down pressure and see what you think. I think this will change the need for for planter bands for sweet corn. Let me know what you think. I get spectacular stands of sweet corn with mine.

I've been using the 71 for 3 years just for corn and had terrible stands of corn.. Very uneven spacing till I found out that I got the wrong plates for corn. I'm not worried about the debth with corn just with the small seed that can't be planted too deep. Sent some sweet corn samples to.. Forgot the company.. To match up plates I need so that should fix my problem with corn.
Elie is small town close to Winnipeg.
