John Deere 5320 starter won't engage

My 5320 solenoid won't engage or spin the starter, I started to start it the solenoid engaged I let off it and thought I smelled a small burning smell then went to engage the starter only a very weak clicking then nothing, the positive post on the starter tests almost 14 volts, when I turn the key I get an occasional weak click but not every time. The fuse 30Amp is good. I can coast start it, it runs fine and shuts off fine when done. But will not restart only an occasional weak click.

contacts are burned. Take it apart and clean them.

Yes and check the armature brushes while you have it apart.

It’s a bosch starter looks like the solenoid can’t be taken apart. I can get a starter for $150.00 the solenoid still does a weak growl and weak clicking. Sounds like something clicking inside the dash every now and then.I have a little hay to roll I’m roll starting it until I can tear it down and fix it right. Thanks for your replies.

now this afternoon after parking it where i could roll start it, it failed to start when I rolled it? wth
