After reading many, many, many post here on tractorbynet I ordered a John Deere 5100M with H260 loader.

I am very grateful to all members who have taken the time to post their experiences with M series and E series. It was a tremendous help in deciding between the 5100E and the 5100M.

This post doesn't contain any helpful content for other buyers, but I wanted to express my gratitude in some way.

Thanks again everybody.

Congratulations on a great machine. I recently got the 5115M with the H310 loader (haven't updated my profile) and the very little time I had to spend with it impressed me a great deal. Most of my current attachments are class 1, so I'll slowly be replacing most of them. No hurry, since I can't use them from here anyway.

What will your primary uses be, and what attachments do you have or plan to get? Sorry, but it's the only picture I have of mine. My wife took it on the day it was delivered.

The primary uses will be mowing and light land clearing. Along with taking care of a couple of cows.

As far attachments, I got a heavy duty bucket, a bale spear, and a 72in root grapple. They will all connect using the global style connection.

For the three point I didn't purchase anything new. Currently I have woods BB 720 rotary mower, which has been incredible, an unknown brand heavy duty box blade, a quite old deere harrow, and a post hole driller, also a woods product.

How have liked the global style hookup for your front end loader attachments so far?

I sure will. I ordered the tractor on 7-29-13. I was told that it would take about a month. Maybe this week is the week it will be delivered.

With my admittedly limited use, I really like the global attachment system. I switched between a grapple, bucket and forks, mainly just to make sure everything worked, and had no problem at all. I've never had a skid steer attachment, so I can't compare the 2, but so far I'm really liking the global system. The latches are a bit stiff, as they're brand new, but still not at all difficult to operate. I'm guessing with a little use and maybe a dab of grease, operation should get even easier.

The current tractor that I have is equipped with the 500 style connection. It seems to sufficient for what I would call medium duty loader work. The reason I went with Global style was ,from my understanding, it was a bit more robust. Also quicker to attach and reattach.

I am curious to see if this is the case though.

After several unexplained delays the dealer who I am working with let me know that the tractor had finally arrived at the dealership on 9-26-14. Also, after considering how much I currently use the loader on the 5320, I decided to go with the self-leveling version of the h260 loader instead of the non self-leveling.

Bb720? Will you get a bigger mower? I plan to run a 72 inch howse on mine till I get money for a nice 8 or 10 foot.

I do hope to purchase a larger mower next spring. I have been trying to research as much as possible the differences between a 10 ft mounted mower and a 15 ft batwing style mower. As of right now I leaning towards the medium duty woods brand batwing mower. I think the batwing mower will be easier to get in and out of cattle pasture gates.

I have read positive reviews on the 2815 bushhog mower as well, but I like the way the blades attach the Woods stump jumper. Also, having used a smaller woods mower for a few years, I have been quite impressed by the cut and discharge capabilities, robustness, and easy serviceability.

I have gotten quotes on both mowers and the woods is roughly 200 dollars more. I hope to get some more options from bushhog users before I make my decision.

I have only used the bb720 mower from woods, but if the 8 and 10ft version are any thing like the 7ft they are definitely worth considering. I have used the bb720 just over five years. So far I have had to purchase new blades and replace the bearings on the right side rear tail wheel. It has, by my standards, been a solid mower. Definitely worth taking a look at.

I ordered the 5100M having never seen one. The 5320 I have been using has been absolutely great. I have had zero problems with it. When I started looking for a bit of larger tractor my first thought was the 5085E. But after reading and researching I decided that a 100 hp would be better suited for pulling a 15 ft cutter.

Another reason for going with the M series was the increased hydraulic flow. I use a 3pt bush hog backhoe from time to time to dig up stumps so i guessed the increased flow might help. I had even thought about adding a small hydraulic powered mower mounted to the front end loader in the future. I am not sure that would work though.

What tires you get?

18.4R30 In. 143A8 R1 Radial for the rear and 12.4R24 In. 122A8 R1 Radial for the front.

I have to deal with 10-15 flat tires each year so I decided to experiment with some tire sealant. I bought seven gallons of gemplers ultra seal tire sealant.

GEMPLER'S ® Ultraseal

I am hoping this will greatly reduce the number of times I will have to remove the tires and take them to the tire repair shop. From what I read people either hate the stuff or love it.

Why do you get so many flats? What tires you getting these flats on? Those radials should help. I can only get bias on mine. Went same size as you. Wish I could get the r1w tires.

During the last year most of the flats were caused by small pieces of wood about half the size of a pencil. I have had some success plugging the first few. Then I would end up with tubes in the tires.

I am not familiar with the differences in bias and radial. Why did you prefer the radial tires?

/ John Deere 5100M with H260 loader #17
You are getting radials. Radials are better than bias. Farmers use radials. Better tires all around but cost more.

Just a quick update.

The tractor was scheduled to be delivered today 10-3-14 around lunch time. Shortly after lunch the dealer called and said the delivery was cancelled because of brake issues. The mechanic that was installing the power beyond noticed that the brakes would go soft after the tractor idled for more than a few minute.

Maybe next week sometime I will have some updated info.

I didn't hear anything from the dealer today regarding the air in brakes issue. Maybe they are close to getting it sorted out. I sure hope so.
