steering started getting sticky ,brake pedal started going down further , lift got noisier ...started hearing knocking under hood , when i put my hand on the hydraulic pump i could feel the knocks...is the pump just going out? or has my fluid got contaminated or something else?

I don't have a clue, but....

..the "knocks" is a bit unsettling.

1. Is there plenty of hydraulic oil in it?
2. Are you sure there's no water/ice (now that temps are colder) in the hydraulic oil? These tractors often get a tear at the bottom of the rubber boots at the bottom of the shifting levers that can let water get into rear end.
3. Could knocks be a relief valve cycling? I've read that these tractors also have a reputation (because of misadjusted linkage? -not sure) that when the 3 point hitch lever is at fully raised, the 3pth can try to keep raising and the hydraulics go into relief. In some cases this has caused things to get so hot the fuel tank melts.
