John Deere 4840 Alternator

Battery has been charged. Alternator rebuilt. Tractor want start without jump. Regulator show overcharge in cab when switch turned own.

Have you cleaned and tightened ALL battery cable connections?? It's also possible that you have a battery cable corroded under the insulation. If cables are good then I will guess you have one or more bad batteries.

Are you saying gauge in dash shows overcharge without engine running? Try checking voltage with a voltmeter at the alternator both without engine running and with engine running. Gauge seems to be not working in dash. If alternator is not charging, be sure to check wiring. With key on, there should be power to all three wire connections.
