I'm new here to this forum I am interested in knowing if anyone has had problems with the transmission range selector on a 4400 hydro and if there is a recall on it possibly?

Welcome to TBN:D

Your post will be better served in the JD forum...but there is not a general problem with the 4400's, what specific problem are you having?

the problem is that the shaft is broken off even with the transmission housing

Not a very common problem, but I have heard of the before. Read this thread about a fix: JD4300 -- Catastrophic Failure of the Shift Shaft - TractorByNet.com

Basically, the shafts need to lubricated to keep corrosion at bay where they enter the casing. Happens to the brake shafts also (although they just seize up and cause the brakes to drag).

I have the JD 4300 hydro, and did not know about lubricating that area. Will certainly look into it. Thanks for the heads up.
Mine is always shedded, and normally dry. Maybe that helps.

But having it break off is certainly a problem. :(

Fluid Film is great for area's like this, it does not evaporate quickly like other lubricants do. The brake shaft are a real common problem-and the brake return springs are know for breaking as well.
