Absolutly not a common problem, this is the first I have heard of this on a machine like yours. It seems like a really odd place for a failure also, where you doing anything unusual when it happened?

I was pushing some brush and limbs with the bucket into a pile. Nothing i have not done a 1000 times before. This seems to be an $800.00 part from john deere
nothing on mine is bad but the casting. But you can not buy just the casting from what i can find out. You have to buy the whole assembly. Not sure if i could find a used one or just get a new one. This is a great tractor and i have had no other problems with it. The strange thing about this is the casting does not look bad. Usually you would see a void in the casting where it broke but i see nothing. I had my Senior Metallurgist look at it an we can not see where the failure started.

Is that plugged hole just a machining process hole, or does it have a purpose for measuring pressure etc??
Could there have been a pressure spike that didn't get enough relief through the PRV??? Of course it should not blow the casting...but if something is wrong....it will break at the weakest point....:confused2:

The manual says they are check valves.

Yes, you have to buy the whole thing. The sppols are a "lapped" fit into the valve body so it only comes as a "matched" set. Good luck finding a used one-I would not know where to start looking.
When you get it fixed, you may want to hook up a gauge and check the PRV (pressure relief valve) setting just to make sure it's not set to high...but I think this is just one of those strange failures that turn up once in a blue moon

I know this is an old post but it came up in a search because I am looking for replacement plugs like that shown in the pictures posted by jim98338. If Jim happens to still be on here and has that part sitting on a shelf, I would love to buy those plugs.
Otherwise, can anyone tell me where to buy those plugs for my JD 4310 spool valve that works fine; however, those plugs are rusted so bad that one of them has a pin hole in it now and leaks badly. JD will sell you the whole valve and many other parts for the valve but not those plugs - go figure!

Can you get one out and determine thread size and how it's sealed?
I will guess metric threads.

Thanks for your response. I am at the point of needing to try to get at the valve so I can take them out because a couple of local hydraulics shops indicated they might be able to source something that will work. Unfortunately, I am not a mechanic and I hesitate to start taking the tractor apart for fear I will break something or not be able to put it back together properly! It is located under the seat. Maybe there's a Youtube video for that - I have not looked!
In any case, I had a tractor mechanic find the original leak and it was a pin hole in the plug. He took it to a welder and it worked for a short time; however, I am guessing the weld failed because as soon as I put a big load on the system the oil started squirting out the same plug. So, not likely just an o-ring issue.
