Good afternoon from muskoka Ontario
I am new here so forgive me if I don't know what i am doing. I am having trouble getting my JD 4300 to turn over. It has been working fine but now there is no response when I turn the key.
Hopefully someone can help me. Thanks

Maybe the battery is dead?

Yeah I thought that might be it to but the lights work so I thought that would be ok. Perhaps I should clean the terminals and put the charger on overnight. It just seems weird hat it worked fine all day and now nothing. Is it possible the stater is shot? And how would I know?
Thanks for replying so quickly. It has really put me behind now with he work I am trying to get done.
Thanks

Owners manual says the following for "STARTER WILL NOT WORK"

Loose or corroded battery connections.
Blown fuse.
Low battery output - check electrolyte level.
Neutral start switch faulty or not adjusted properly
Key switch or starter faulty.
Gear shift lever in gear.
PTO engaged.

Yes thanks. I think I will need to get it in for service to make sure those things are OK. I have no way of investigating these electrical issues. Funny thing though, I just went out to the tractor to see if I could get it started one more time and it started....very weird as I tried for hours this afternoon.
Doesn't make sense.

More than likely you have a safety switch not working properly.Seat switch-Gear switch some like that going out or loose.

Yeah I wondered about the seat switch...it does seem to activate as I can hear it click in. Didn't know there was a gear switch...any idea where I might find that? Perhaps it or a wire is loose. Thanks for that info.

It also could have been the PTO safety switch. Mine is a power reverser So I don't know were yours is located. Mine is in dash. on gear lever i think. most likely it was the seat,

One word: Thermistor!

I had the same issue with my 4700. About 2-3 times a year it would just not start. The part is only a couple of bucks, but it is a bit tricky to get to it to replace it.
