Buying Advice John deere 2640

Looking at a jd2640 any suggestions they want 9500 for it. Is it a dependable tractor

Depends on the specific tractor at that age, do you have pictures? I would prefer a 3020 if looking for an older 70 hp tractor but thats me.

I consider the 2640 more of a utility tractor vs 3020. 3020 I consider more of a row crop tractor. Depends on your intended use.
$9500 seems high to me, but as jenkinsph said, need more details, what trans? hours? condition? Pictures!

That girl looks like she has served you well. I really think that generation of JD was one of the best.

We her bought new in 1972 along with a 10 foot disc and a 4 bottom plow. We've had the motor rebuilt once but other than that she's put up well.

It's way over 6000 because the hour meter quit working a long long time ago

I worked on a farm that runs a 2640 on a mixer wagon. Nice machine, transmission was a bit fussy, but it was reliable and had good power. 9500 could be reasonable, depends on the hours.

Thanks, my 2030 is in the 4000 hour range (been awhile, all winter since it's been out) Runs good, but lots of blowby
