Thanks Tx Jim, I'll try the test this afternoon before changing fluid. Since I am picking up the 1" plug for the rear of the tractor after work, do you know the size cap or plug I will need for the return fitting? I'd love to kill two birds with one stone here.

For me or anyone else to intelligently answer your question they would need to know what orifice on your tractor that the FEL control return hose attaches to. If it attaches to hyd oil filter cover 1-1/16''? Parts description states pipe but O-ring makes me think it's O-ring boss(ORB) which has different threads from NPT

Does your FEL control valve have this adapter fitting encircled in green in 2nd photo? If so I'll bet I know what to do to solve your tractors hyd problem

TX Jim,

I do indeed have the adapter that you noted (see first pic). Note that it is on the right side of the control, and the hose runs back to the side of the transfer case (see second pic).

I did NOT buy the proper plug for that, but will grab one tomorrow to do the test you mentioned (looks like these are 1/2” NPT....

I do have the plug on the bottom of the filter cartridge can, that you noted, but there is nothing connected there (see pic 3).

The hose from the left side of the control valve runs to what I’m guessing is a pressured outlet that points to the rear of the tractor, with a hard line coming out opposite of it that runs to the front of the tractor (see pics 4-6).

Hopefully this is enough information. I apologize for the lack of technical knowledge or terms, but I’m surely thankful for the help you guys are offering!

I am just "thinking outside of the box" here, a little bit.

I am one of the viewers that do not totally understand the flow of the oil,,,

but,,

if the oil that is returning to the transmission so that it can be pumped again
is flowing into the transmission case ABOVE the level of the oil in the transmission case
that oil, sloshing with air, will get foamy, and look "MILKY" white.

Is it possible air in the oil is the source of the white appearance of the oil??

Many JD utility tractors had return oil from factory installed SCV had return oil routed to that orifice in rockshaft housing. More correct location for FEL control valve return oil is the ported filter cover.

The adapter in photo below isn't the adapter I was referring to in my earlier post. JIC swivel on FEL control valve return oil hose attached to rockshaft will make performing my test I suggested very easy. Just remove swivel from fitting on RS housing & aim open hose into hyd filler opening behind seat. There's no need to cap fitting on RS housing as no oil should exit open fitting when engine is operating. I suggest to attach FEL return oil hose to hyd filter ported filter cover after performing test I suggested.

I am guessing you found a CC plug for his valve.

Looks like water in fluid to me. Easy test, pull a sample and put in clear container. Water will eventually settle to bottom. If foam it will eventually disburse.

I think the ported filter cover use an SAE 12 (3/4") ORB fitting. Thread size is 1 1/16-12.
It looks like the loader installer pulled the rear SCV. Connected the pressure for the loader valve to the PCV (they should have "T" into it) Then ran the return to the return for rear SCV on the rockshaft cover. They should have connected to the ported filter cover.
