John Deere 110 loader backhoe surging in fwd and reverse

This is rather weird. According to the JD dealer, the ..._ fault code is the ground speed sensor, which makes sense according to the described symptoms in the forum and elsewhere. However, when I removed this part (which is illustrated in the operator's manual), transmission oil puked out of its receptacle. I thought this was rather strange. Upon further investigation (after corking the hole) I discover that the part was made by Honeywell, the temperature control company. Since it appeared to be a thermocouple, I concluded that it was the transmission temperature sensor rather than the ground speed sensor. Can anyone shed some sort of illumination on this dilemma? I can't imagine a speed sensor being wet.

Turns out it's the coil for the forward drive solenoid valve. Does anyone know how to get it out through that little access port? I can barely get my digits in there!

Yes, I've been looking here and elsewhere for a couple of months. Takes a long time to read through everything as forum search tools are quite general.

Ok, I got the solenoid valve out. You have to remove the plastic nut (and not drop it down inside the tranny housing) and slide the coil off the end of the valve shaft WITH THE WIRES STILL ATTACHED otherwise, you can drop the coil down inside. Just push it out of the way and let it hang down inside by the wires. Use a short, angled 24 mm box-end wrench to loosen the valve where it enters the tranny. Mine wasn't very tight so it was easy to "untorque". Twist the rest of the way by hand or with pliers being careful not to mar the surface of the shaft if you intend to reuse it. Again, don't drop it down the hole. You have to reassemble the part in the reverse order since it won't fit through the hole assembled.

Turns out this wasn't the problem with my unit because I replaced the part and got the same symptoms. As a double-verification, I applied power directly to the solenoid valve using a 12 V battery with the engine running. The machine shot ahead at full speed for the RPM.

I have isolated the creeper switch and the pedal pots using similar methods. Next in line is the Proportional Solenoid Valve. Anyone know where it is located on the 110 TLB?

Hi all, I can't tell you how thankful I am to have found this thread! After reading everyone having the same symptoms as mine, I figured this must be my problem too, since I changed all the filters and oil, and no change. It's functions great, besides the drive, so I've been using the creeper switch.

I bought the LVA17409 sensor, but can't find where it installs, because I have the full skid plate. So, my question is- Do I need to remove the skid plate, or am I just not seeing it?

No... at least on mine it is about floorboard level on the right side on the flywheel housing...

I believe it has a single wire and one bolt???

It's been awhile and boy was it a relief to find it was a simple fix... I was already thinking the worst.

It started as a surge and by the next week... about the only way I could move was with the creep function.

PS... How are things in the Great Pacific Northwest?

I sure am missing Washington...

This issue has been happening intermittently with my 110. I didn't notice any codes while having the surges but do with the sensor unplugged. As with others, surging disappears with sensor disconnected. It seemed to fail more quickly the longer the machine sat. I'm wondering it the failure cause is gap. Since it's a "Hall" effect probe they tend to be very sensitive to probe gap. I'm going to replace mine and hope that it's a one time deal.
