John Deere 1020 PTO (clutch) problems.....

Hi...

I have a JD 1020 tractor .... When I try to shift on the PTO, not responding.... I tryed with the depressed clutch pedal - nothing, with undepressed clutch---- nothing...

Please, help me.... If you want, I tryied to sending video .... Sorry for the my poor english...........

Alternative operation for a tractor with a stuck dual stage pto clutch other than R&R of said clutch is engage pto lever before starting engine then after pto is engaged start engine. This feat is to be performed with EXTREME CARE.

I also do in the same way for two years - I engage the PTO lever and after that I start engine.. But, if I do in this way that is not useful for the tractor's starter motor..

My question is that originaly - how is working the PTO, how do we need to start in order not to cause damage.

Ex. I start the engine, than do I have to press cluch pedal.... or I just have to switch ON the PTO lever? At the moment it is no difference between I press or I don't... The PTO lever is not moving and not switching.... Only very hard and its making strange noises... Finaly ----- I not making things in right order or maybe the PTO has problem????

I suppose other modell have the same PTO/system...????

If pto clutch is stuck(as I think it is) the only GOOD SOLUTION is to split tractor & R&R clutch components.

Do you have a lever like this between the transmission shift levers? If so, then pushing in the clutch has no effect on pto. Push down on this lever to disengage pto clutch. The lever on the left side of transmission beside your left foot disengages the splines on the shaft. The lever between shifters is a hydraulic clutch for pto. If you do not have lever between shifters, then the foot clutch should stop pto and tractor needs to be split to repair.

I asked that same question of historyan1975 on a different thread and they stated no lever between gearshift levers.

No lever... only PTO ON/OFF switch lever on the tractor'"s gearbox left side...............

If you watch the following video as I also did you will see that the tractor JD 1020 made in 1966 has PTO/engage lever.... But my tractor made in 1975 does not have PTO lever between shifters...

Then the final conclusion is that the foot clutch should stop pto... which in my case is not working in this way...

P.S. Does somebody have a JD 1020 tractor transmission or gearbox/scheme???
