I have been having trouble with my John Deere 1020 Type 14R1C Serial 066038T. Current issue is it will not start with no spark.
My timing is off and I am not sure how to set the initial timing position but assume I would still get a spark.
I have 12 V on the positive side of the coil (with or without the key on). I have the red and black from an electronic ignition module (replaced points) and a bundle of three wires going to the positive side of the coil. Is it possible that I have ruined an electronic ignition module? Any way to test this?
I have three coils and have traded them in an out but am doubtful that they have all gone bad.
Not sure my wiring is all correct in the battery compartment behind the dash. Beyond the ignition switch is there anything essential to starting in the wiring behind the dash?
