Also, how often to change out the cap? (new jinma 224, hot florida climate)....just curious. )</font>

I change antifreeze before the green becomes brown, and the cap before rust accumulation interferes with the pressure seal.

TSMART,

One way to find out if it's time to change the antifreeze is to test it. Several suppliers/auto part stores make/offer special antifreeze test strips that react to the pH (alkalinity) of the coolant and change color. If the test strip indicates a marginal or bad condition, the coolant should be changed.

This is the only way I know how to determine the condition of the antifreeze when I don't know how long it has been since it has been last changed ?? It can still look good [color] and still need to be changed.

Most of the time I have found that antifreeze looses it's freeze protection first.

I recommend every 2 years ...... But keep in mind antifreeze isn’t just antifreeze, it is coolant that includes rust inhibiters, lubricants etc.............

Radiator Cap, if you can see something wrong with it compared to a know good one... replace it. There is a tester call an Cooling System Pressure Tester that is used to pressure test the cooling system and check the Rad Cap.

lustrums ago i worked in a gas station. We had an antifreeze hydrometer. A bulb floating in the cylinder told us down to what degrees the cooling system was protected.
