Jinma gland nut removal wtf

Sounds to me like an exercise in buggering up the fitting to me.

It’s not beautiful but neither is the usual approach of a big pipe wrench and cheater pipe. If you can apply enough torque without hitting it obviously that’s better.

I find that loosening the gland before removing the cylinder is good if possible. Tapping on the barrel where the threads are with brass hammer can help too. Sometimes I have resorted to heat on older machines. I have rebuilt dozens on the machine, most of the time the barrel doesn’t need work.

Air - First thing i do break the gland nut loose while still on the machine. This SOB would not give in. After the normal techniques failed then went with the pipe wrench + 4' pipe, heat, tapping etc. With thread corrosion it was no go.

If I run into another SOB, I will send it your way. lol

I rather work on the larger cylinders,

Bob G.

Have you actually used the tools you linked to?
They look rather flimsy, and several reviews mention bending the tool,
Yes I have used one similar to the large one to break at least 5 gland nuts on cylinders approximately 5" in diameter. Use a big pipe on the end. The ones shown in the link are not the same as the ones I use, but are similar. Mine are more heavy duty. The link was just a starting point reference since he could use to find appropriate tools.

No way those will work on a tight gland nut. 4ft pipe wrench is the best way to go. Yeah you might get some indentions on the nut, but that's replaceable.

That's why I was asking. Gad, almost all the spanners are similar, but some are cheap flimsy knockoffs while some are good sturdy spanners.
@LDCravey - Can you link to the ones you used?

Europeans love slipper seals. I detest them to the core. Back in the day I had a 16' bench with drain rails made from a 12" wide and 1/2" thick I-beam. 2 8" vises and a 6 to 1 multiplier. Still found a few I couldn't get off.

Well, my setup ended up working and did not mark the caps so I count that as a win. The soon to be installation will use some never seize.
