Don, that is some gorgeous lettuce. I'd love to have that in a bowl and covered by some ripe tomatoes. Yum!

Is the plant on the left side also leaf lettuce? Spinach? The leaves look just like my turnip leaves. I know many leaf vegetables have a similar shaped leaf with the small segments on either side of the stem, but those look close to what I picked for turnip greens. I can't tell for sure in the photo.

The lettuce on the left is a French Mesclum mix of 14 different varieties.

I never tried growing any lettuce, and usually only buy the iceberg lettuce, but that crop sure looks good. Of course that one on the left is something I never even heard of.

OK, so you called it "packman" broccoli and I don't recall hearing that name before. In fact, I didn't know there was more than one variety of broccoli although it shouldn't be any surprise if there are several. I did grow broccoli in my garden, and now that I'm back without a garden, we buy quite a bit of broccoli because, unlike the former President Bush, we both love the stuff.

Hello guys, just a little update from my tomato patch experiment. This is after 7 weeks of original planting. I have many many tomatoes but all are green minus a very few. I reckon I need another 10 days of of dry sunny days before I can go to town.. :D . I did not have salt and pepper shaker with me today but went ahead and picked up a half red tomato and ate it ... although not ripe I still though was better than what we buy from store.

tomatos with pumpkins along the fence line.

pumpkin.

very bushy tomato plants with hundred of green tomatos.

lots of romas.

tomato jungle out there, by the way I could not belive my eyes .. I had about 14" of water in the bucket hung off of the T-post... all in few days.

Alright fellow gardeners: I planted watermelons, cantalopes, squash, cucumber, okra, tropical corn, indian corn, tomatoes, bell peppers, and peas. Sorry I can't post any pictures don't have the equipment to do so. Not a lot to show though anyway. I have been told that you can't plant gourds close to watermelons, cantalopes, cucumbers and squash because the gourds will cross pollinate and everything will taste like gourds. Is this true ? Whats some of yalls experience with this wise tale? It'll be interesting to hear from others on this. Thanks.....I believe everything grows better with GOD as your co-pilot. Bless all and have a great day!!!!!

Yikes... I did not know that, as they say "what you don't know will not hurt you" I did exactly the same as you suggested. I have some gourds and cantelope just next to each other for the very first time. Time will tell .. hmm, you never know, I may end up with "JC-cantogourd" :D :D

Randy, I know that all broccoli is sorta blue, but that is really blue. It looks very healthy and I believe I can even see water droplets on the leaves. You said you harvested 40 heads. Did you sell all of them? My grandkids helped us pick tomatoes yesterday morning. We had 125 large tomatoes almost as big as your fist and about two gallons of cherry tomatoes. I wish we had a farmer's market close by.
