Oil & Fuel Jelled Fuel

/ Jelled Fuel #21
Whitish slime is when paraffin drops out of diesel fuel in the cold. I have had that problem too many times. I included a picture from last year when "winterized fuel" from the pumps did not like the -20 C (-4 F) temps. I used a healthy dosage of an agent to help lower the temperature range, cleaned the filter and re-installed it.

The simple solution is to use #1 diesel which doesn't begin to gel until -40. It costs a little more, has about 5% less energy than #2 diesel and has less lubrication than #2. If it gets to less than -40, I am not leaving the house!

I use a lubricating additive when I use #1 - Opti Lube XPD

-1*I am thinking now that they do not put the same additives in their off road fuel as they do in their on road fuel.
2*Do you use off road fuel or the on road fuel in the winter?
1*Both are ULSD,so why would they take the additives out of the off road fuel
2*Since off road on road Home heating oil and fuel oil are all ULSD I avoid the tax by avoiding the on road stuff.
