Hi,

Did the 1978 version of the JD950 have a two-stage clutch (live PTO)? I have a 50 series brochure that indicates that the 950 has the two-stage clutch but I don't know when the brochure was published. Thanks

My old brochure says two-stage. I'm not sure how old the brochure is. I'm guessing 1984.

My 1984 model has the 2 stage. I seem to remember that the earlier models (pre-1980?? maybe) did not have. But don't know for sure.

You can buy an operator's manual for your 950. They will ask for the serial number to get you the correct manual as the earlier models were somewhat different from the later models. Serial number is just above the PTO shaft. You can get them at the JD dealer or by calling 1-800-522-7448.
