Well it appears that I can order all of the parts I will need, jdparts seems reasonable, however I do not need to go through a dealer to order parts, I can do that myself!! John Deere needs to create a Amazon like website for its parts center. If I wait on my dealer, my tractor will be down for weeks.

Try Green Farm Parts: The John Deere Parts Discount Store Use coupon code FIREWORK for 10% off if your spending over $150. Good until 7-05-15 Plus they sell for less than most JD dealers before the discount.

Thanks, that lowered the repair bill by 50%. I need to look over the front axle to see if the seal is bad or if the swivel joint is just leaking, as the entire area is covered in grease. perhaps I will do that tomorrow if it stops raining long enough.

Spent some more time on the tractor today, once you get into things you typically find more issues.

Two of the bearings are suspect, one had metal flakes around the snap ring and the other one is sticky, those to be replaced.

The lands on the pinion gear look great, I was suspecting to see noticeable wear marks but to my surprise nothing.

The tang that holds one of the driveshaft covers had snapped off, that part will be fab'd and TIG welded.

The seal was bad and will be replaced as well, which leads me to placing another order for bearings and a few more seals/packings.

I apologize that I did not take snap any pics of the completion, but all went well with the repair.

The driveshaft is kinda a pin in the *** to install with the loss ball bearings, but finally got it together.

Did a few tests and and my 4-wheel drive works now and I can drag a box blade up the hill no problem.

I would like to thank everyone for their assistance.

One thing I will add, is the rubber boots that slide over the ball bearing couplings. The Deere parts calls for using wire tires to secure both ends, what I did was use a tie on one end and some silicone fusing tape on the other end as the ball bearings seem to jump out for whatever reason.

If anyone is interested I will snap a picture.
