I am trying to decide between the 4110 and the 4210. I thought the 4110 would be sufficient for my needs but I'm not sure it's big enough. I will be hauling and moving heavy stone, cleaning out corrals and an arena, moving manure and doing reasonably heavy landscaping work requiring earth moving. I would also use a bucket on the rear for very heavy loads. I will not be mowing or bush-hogging, but may use a chipper and definitely a box scraper. I was trying to keep with something smallish, to get through six foot gates. I had pretty much decided on the 4110, but then made the mistake of trying the 4210 (w/420 loader) with electronic eHydro transmission. It was a dream, but of course much more expensive. I had a Kubota B2710, so that's my only basis of comparison. Should I have any cause for concern about maintenance on the electronic controls for the transmission? Or should I stick to the 4110? Thanks for your advice, Linda.

By 6' gates, do you mean 6' tall or wide? If 6' tall, you'll probably want a foldable ROPS.

Anyway, most of the work could be done by either machine...just would take longer with the 4110.
So, is getting the work done quickly a priority? Then go with the 4210...
Personally, since you're not going to mow, I'd go with the biggest machine you can afford.

Another thing to consider... It really sounds like your work could be better handles by a skid steer (Bobcat). Have you thought about going in that direction?

Also, you should consider the 4115. Slightly longer wheelbase than the 4110 and also more horsepower and I think more hydraulic flow. This will make the loader more productive.

I would agree that you may be better off with a skid steer or rubber track-loader for a lot of what you are talking about.

Linda,

I have a 4210/420 FEL with E hydro, I considered buying the smaller frame 4110 but I needed a tractor that would be heavy enough for serious dirt and rock moving. Not to be critical of the smaller machine but I would choose the larger model for the extra hp and weight, also I feel it's safer to do ground engaging work with a larger machine. If you don't have a 72 inch MMM a 4210 will fit through a six foot gate with no problem and if the six feet refers to height, the folding ROPS will permit clearing that. I wondered about reliability of the Ehydro myself but Deere did a lot of research and development before offering it to consumers. Whatever machine you buy, MFWD is MANDATORY and be sure you get agricultural or industrial tires for traction.

Thank you everyone, for your suggestions. I am leaning towards the 4210 with MFWD and ag tires. I had thought about a Bobcat, but decided that's a whole lot of money for less versatility than a tractor. Thanks again. Linda

I have a 4100 HST and love it, but if I had to do it over again, I would
probably have gone with the 4200/4210, as I love the comfort of the
larger operator platform :) Given that I spend at least 2 to 3 hours a week
on the thing, I don't think you can be too comfortable /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Linda,

I have a 4110 and am confident in saying it is not strong enough for what you describe. The chipper, depending on it's capacity will most certainly need more PTO power than the 4110 has. The 4210 is the way to go.

I know lots of people talk about all of the extra weight of a tractor and how much better that is. In my case weight was an issue also, I did not want too much of it. Since I did not want to buy another truck and trailer I opted for the 4115. I would have loved to be able to bump up to the mid size (4210 or 4310) but just wasn't able. The more HP at the PTO the better off you will be for using a chipper etc. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have an older 4100 with a loader and it never really feels like it needs more weight to run the loader. I have added about 1100 lbs to the back. I always just want more hydraulic flow and pressure - more horsepower, essentially.

More pressure (or larger boom cylinders) to lift a heaping full bucket of dirt to full height (I have the 60" bucket), and more flow to do it faster.

I would love to have the added power of the 4115 in the same size and weight package I have now.

When I take the loader and ballast off for mowing, I do appreciate how light and small this tractor is.

"When I take the loader and ballast off for mowing...."

She said her tractor would not be used for mowing, I agree a lighter machine like the 4100 or 4110 is more compact and better suited for that purpose. But for ground engaging work I feel a heavier and more powerful machine is better.
