JD318 jerky hydro

My 318 is very rough starting from neutral to forward or neutral to reverse. They tell me there is linkage that incorporates a small hydraulic cylinder to eliminate this problem. This was standard on some and optional on others. JD dealer tells me only some of the parts I need to convert mine are still available. Has anyone else had this problem or know where I can find the parts I need?

I have a 318 also. It has a springy piece of metal that holds tension on the hydro lever. My tractor was doing the same jerky hard to keep at a steady speed thing also. I found that the lever that connects the linkage and the trans axle it self was worn out and had play in it. It wasn't very much but it was enough were that it wasn't holding the piece on the trans axle steady. The lever was I think about 40-50$ so I drilled a hole in the lever then taped threads in it and put a set screw in it. This made a night and day difference. No creeping or jerkiness anymore. Hope this helps it was a free fix that has lasted 5 years with no problems yet.

I had the same problem on my 300. These hydro,s are pretty fussy with their linkages. JD420 found the slop in his. Before trying anything else, make sure all the related pins,holes,bushings,etc. are tight.
