JD2320 Pulling power

Does this seem right?
My manual says the 2320 weighs 1,660 lbs. If you want to tow a trailer with brakes it can tow 4.5 times it痴 weight 7,470 lbs. Trailer with no brakes 1.5 times it痴 weight 2,490 lbs.

Seems reasonable to me as far as being able to tow the load. However, I would temper that with my own judgement based on the specific conditions. For instance, nomatter what the book says, I wouldn't try towing 4.5 times the tractor's weight on a grassy slope or something like that.

I move a 5,000 lb boat around with a lawn tractor, but only on flat concrete.

Exactly. Tow it? Maybe. Have any chance of stopping it? Nope.

If you load the tractor up, like with a loader and box blade then you can tow 4.5 times that amount. It's just a matter of traction. Still you've got to be careful due to braking.

I think they're talking about a trailer with onboard surge-type brakes. I've rented trailers from U-Haul with them. When the tow vehicle slows, the trailer brakes activate -- it's all mechanical/hydraulic with no electrical connections needed.

When I had my 4110, I would pull around our 29' Fountian using a reciever on the three point. It was great for moving it in and out of the barn since I could see very well and get it tight to the wall. You had to be in low range, and it stopped it well (trailer had surge brakes, but I dobt they worked at slow speed). I only moved the boat 100' or so, and would never move it anywhere but from the barn to the driveway.

So I have no doubt you can move a 7K trailer.... But I would not tow it down the road......
