Hi Ovrszd,

I just bought a 2210 and I want to make sure the shaft is greased. So if I am reading correctly the front is easily accessible and if I cut a hole I can easily access the rear?

Once accessed just use a needle tip on my grease gun (sorry I am new to this and the 2210 is my first real tractor). Do you use polyurea grease on it or MOLY?

Egeezy. Yeah, if you get your hole cut, you should be able to access the zerk with a needle point. I always use the Moly grease.
But any grease is better then none at all. LOL! Later on about 6 months after I put the new spiders in, I noticed the back yoke was pretty sloppy on the transmission input shaft. I removed the yoke, turned it true on the lathe, and made a bushing to put on the back side of it so it fit tight around the input shaft of the transmission. I made it so it stuck out about 5/8" beyond the yoke. I didn't put any spline it in, I just made it to fit snug around the transmission shaft. Made world of difference. I did have to press the spider together with the driveshaft in the tractor. But, I'm pretty well set now. Shouldn't have anymore trouble with it. Good luck!

Can you show exactly where you cut the hole? Also, would you cut it in the same place again?

After you blow up your driveshaft and the front shaft of your trans. What will be a guess at price.

Good for you! Gator has a good point, if the needle you are using is giving you some hard time, try one like I have on post 9. Also a hand pump grease gun works better then the lever style. One hand to hold the needle and the other for the pump. I had the lever one and always manage but once I got the hand pump it made it so much easier. So you are from Orlando, that explain the mower. Always exited here to get the snow but by February I sure envy you guys.
That's really funny, the other day I was working on the hinged doors on my barn replacing steel hinges and dropped a lag bolt, and it of course it bounced and rolled under the door edge, I thought. Inside the door in the hinge area looking on hands and knees when I can across my little screw on greasing needle....
"Oh, I've been looking for you for years". Unscrew the thick greasing zerk holder and the needle screws right on, I think 1985 to 1987 vintage from Napa Auto Parts. But this thing is stout, remembering why I needed it in the first place was greasing Chevy u joints, unless you want to pull them off the splines and grease them, not me.

Where do get one today? I don’t have a Delorean to go back to 1987. LOL.

I will have to do the same.

Is there a chance that some 2004 JD 2210 were produced without a zerk fittings on the drive shaft. The manual does not mention them as a grease point and I have visually looked and have had my fingers all over the upper one and cannot locate it.

Mine was in the cross. No way you could have felt it with your finger. My replacement joints have zerks in the caps.

JD 2210 Main axle front u joint -- trying to locate grease fittings. I attached a few pics after cleaning up the front u joint.
Pics are showing side away from engine except image 2127 (the 2nd pic). Can anyone identify where the grease fittings should be?

See attachments for photos please.

Spoke to previous owner and he replaced them about 50 hours before I bought the tractor. He said no zerk fittings on the u joints.

They'll run 400hrs or so that way. If you ever replace them get Precision brand joints with zerk in a cap.

Hope your tractor serves you well. Mine sure has. Approaching 900hrs.

Mine has 1175 hrs and running strong. One small leak to fix on the bucket ram. Maybe next week!

Just looking at parts online and JD wants $86.00 each and Kubota wants $38.00 each. I want to get some with a zerk fitting. Still looking.

Hey All,
I just want to express my gratitude for this thread and each contribution to it. I read every word a dozen times to make sure I understood it correctly. I am so relieved to somehow have found this thread.
I looked for 2 weeks for the source of the racket without luck. It sounded like a fan hitting a shroud. After finding this information, I took my tractor apart the next morning. It took me much longer than 6 hours though. Probably 2.5 times that.
I have 671 hours on my 2210.
Anyways, your write up is helping people 10 years later. By the way, the JD dealer wanted over $100 a piece for the spider in 2020. Thanks to mikerind for the NAPA part number. Still $22 with the grease fitting on the end!
Thanks again

Welcome to TBN.

There is a wealth of excellent informational threads on this website.

Glad this thread helped you. Also glad you found that "racket" before your tractor spit out the driveshaft and cost you a lot of money!!!! :)
