JD Special Offers

Had a 4410 about to be delivered from a dealer in Harrisonburg, Va. Asked about the new special offer and they stated that they had already used up "previous offers" to come up with the price. They refused to acknowledge the new offers. I had a couple of other issues about the preparation of the tractor for delivery that they were not willing to correct and they offered to return the deposit. I told them to stick the tractor in an appropriate place.

Sounds like they where not very good to deal with. I think you made the right decision.

Grianan,

I don't believe there were any 'previous' offers, except the new financing rates that JD made available about a month ago. This current offer was offered by big JD and dealers, no matter how they split the pot with big JD, should have enough integrity to acknowledge the offer and work with the buyer to offer an additional discount of some type.

You made a good move here. There are plenty other dealers around that have integrity. Find one that will give you that discount and who's willing to ensure that cut for the 3rd SCV lever is properly made. Good luck to you.

As a John Deere dealer, let me give you my take on this. The rebate $$ should all be yours, because that money is deducted from the amount the dealer pays John Deere for the equipment. Any dealer that tells you any different isn't being straight with you. There is NO investment by the dealer on these rebates.

/ JD Special Offers #25
Thanks for that reply. It's nice to see an honest dealer. Do dealers really have to pay for some of these programs like that or is that just something they say? What about the special financing? Does that cost the dealers?

Deerenebraska,
My dealer told me that the $700 for the 4X10 series was broken out as an outright $500, plus an extra $200 if he held an open house. Since he wasn't going to hold an open house I couldn't get the extra $200. I had also negotiated my best deal before the rebate was announced. Since the link to the disclaimers on the Deere.com site has not worked any time I have tried it, I could not debate what he told me. Seems like Deere.com should be able to stay up.

I know this is not New Holland but us dealers do not have to participate in the programs. The cost is all covered by the manufacturer.

I called JD directly and the phone person told me it started 2 weeks ago (around April 1, 2002).

I just found a $1,200 introductory offer on the JD website for the 4x10 series tractors. $700 off the tractor and $500 off 2 implements. I called JD directly and they said this price was off the dealers everyday price not the retail price. I called the dealer who was not aware of the offer. He looked into it and said it was valid. I'm going in on Monday to buy my deere. I'll let you know if the deal goes through (fingers crossed).

I listed the complete special for CUT's on the message above this one. I called the 800 John Deere directly and it's all valid! They said this is off there everyday price not retail price. I'm going after my 4310 at 8:00 am tomorrow morning.
My dealer gave me the $1200 after I got his best price and informed him of the special from JD. See my prices on the listing called 4310 pricing, then deduct $1200 from that price.

The discussion in this thread is becoming all very mysterious. Deerenebraska is saying the whole rebate of $1,200 should go in the customer's pocket. It seems as a dealer he should be on the know on this. Then we have Grianen's dealer who tells him he knows nothing about this rebate program and Grianen tells him to stick it. We have others all over the spectrum, a few hundred here and there is best they can do. Just yesterday my dealer e-mailed me another note and this is what he says:

"I've just received the final (presumably) revision to the current Deere programs on 4000 Ten series and 4000 series tractors. It appears I'll be able to apply a total of $1,000 in the way of a rebate on your original purchase order price. The other $200 that Deere is advertising in the way of a bonus would require us as a dealership to do a number of things that I'm not sure we'll be able to comply with. As I stated in the earlier communications, it's my full intention to pass on whatever savings I can to you, if something else should change in the interim, I'll let you know."

I'm not complaining with the rebate I'm getting. I'll take the extra $1K and buy another implement. But, reflecting on all this, it seems that big JD could have done a whole lot better in communicating this rebate program. If dealers don't even know what or how much they can offer, then something in the marketing department must have broken down in Moline, Illinois.

Bob, I got the same answer from Mark yesterday $1,000 total... the other $200 is questionable since it does (as he put it) "require dealers to jump through hoops" and he wasn't sure they could meet all of JD's requirements! He assured me that whatever he gets it will be passed on to me!
Being in the Car business I know the importance of launching a marketing program with everyone up front knowing what they are doing and how the program works... it looks like JD ought to review their program launch proceedures!

/ JD Special Offers #34
Both John Deere and New Holland rushed out last minute programs to compete with the new announced kubota programs at the begining of april. This may be why there is some confusion.

Bob... FYI... Got a call from Mark at KC Canary...If all goes well (they are getting the tractor on Monday the 22nd.) I will be taking delivery of my 4310 on Friday the 26th. with at least the $1,000 rebate. I can hardly wait! Seven sleepless nights ahead of me!

/ JD Special Offers #36
I don't htink it's a communication breakdown at all. I think these dealers know full well what is going on and play dumb. That way you buy at the full price and they put your rebate right in their pocket. Don't fool yourself for one second to think that deere didn't advise them of this program.

/ JD Special Offers #37
Jim,

Congratulations!!!! Mark tells me mine should be coming in maybe toward end of this week coming up or beginning of next. Then, he's looking at delivery first week of May. He says I'm also getting the $1,000....a good chunk of the $1,200 of Deere's rebate. I'll take it and not get into pinning him down on all the 'hoops' they say they would have to jump through to grant the full $1,200. I've never really understood this part of the rebate program...the way some dealers could give over 80% like KC-Canary is doing, some giving 50% or so, and others like in poor Grianen's case giving him nothing. I'm used to the way auto manufacturers give rebates...all from the manufacturer. If GM says they are giving back $2K, then it's consistent throughout GM land with all dealerships giving $2K into the customers pocket. I still say, big JD could do a lot better in developing and communicating this policy to their dealerships. Look forward to sharing 4x10 series war stories with you Jim. Let me know when the tractor arrives.

Cowboydoc,

I think these dealers know full well what is going on and play dumb. That way you buy at the full price and they put your rebate right in their pocket.

You may be right on this especially knowing now about those gangster dealers you and blurrybill have had to deal with in Iowa. If this is the standard practice, this sure is an odd way to run a business and it's no wonder some JD buyer wanabees jump ship and decide to buy Kubota or NH. But, big JD also covers themselves in their disclaimer by referring to 'participating dealers.' What does this mean? Really, what kind of advice are they giving the dealers on the rebate program? What is the 'small print' they communicate to dealers that they don't tell the potential customer? Is it to participate in the program if you want to or participate partially at your discretion or don't participate at all. If big JD is providing this kind of flexibility, then sure it makes it easy for a dealer to choose to what degree they want to participate in the program and to try to pocket part or all of the rebate themselves.

So, maybe you're right. There may be no communication breakdown between big JD and the dealers; it seems more a breakdown between big JD and the potential customer. I think as this discussion thread reveals, confusion remains with the potential buyer who wonders what kind of a rebate he or she may get, if any at all.

Bob,
It just amazes me that these guys don't even bother to keep up on what's going on with their own products and then if they do they play dumb. Last year was the same deal when I went in to my square baler on that 0% interest. I negotiated the deal and then told him I wanted to do the 0% deal. They said they didn't have that. I said it's right there on your website. He played dumb like he didn't even know. Well I knew that he knew because he had written up a deal three weeks ago for a friend! Well those guys have the internet at each one of their desks. It had been on the deere site for weeks at the time. I found out about it from neighbor who had bought a new conditioner from the same outfit and same salesman three weeks before I went in to buy my square baler. So don't tell me they didn't know about it!!!

If you look at that participating dealer deal every rebate or mfg. deal says that from McDonald's to John Deere. Why a franchise has that right to not participate I have never understood either. If you don't want to participate in their deals then you shouldn't be a franchise in my opinion.

I was in to see my dealer ron Saturday. I had spoken to him by phone and when I got there he showed me the information that JD had sent him. It said the deal was only for 4110 tractors. He took me in the office and had me show him on the website what it said. When he saw it he told me he would check with Deere today. I got two phone calls, one at home and one on my mobile. I was turkey hunting at my place, and he couldn't get through. Long story short, he said Deere told him what the deal is and I can get $500 off on my 4510. The other $200 was reserved if he did an open house. Anyway I am satisfied and am putting the $500 toward more stuff for the farm.

Bottom line, I don't think JD rolled this out very well, but I am happy with my local dealer network.
