JD Hyd. Cylinder

I need help in removing the retaining ring from the hyd. cylinder. My mechanic left and the papers in the ram rebuild kit aren't specific to remove the retaining ring. There is an orange plastic split ring that is supposed to make it easy, but how?

Welcome to TBN

The orange ring goes inside the cylinder and fills the groove so that the steel split ring that is on the piston can slide over the groove when you pull it out.
