I don't have time to do it right now so I will ask what am I getting into. I need to change the deck belt, but I see the driveshaft/gearbox is going to complicate matters. What comes apart to allow the belt to be installed?

The biggest problem you will have is figuring out the routing of the belt if you don't have it marked. If there is a routing sticker on the deck, preserve it. If not, then draw it on one of the covers with a Sharpie before yoy take the old one off.

Other than that, the belt slips under the drive shieve. Mine is the 72" Commercial deck. If you can't slip it under the gearbox. loosen the gearbox mounting plate and lift it up. Don't have to remove the rear bolts, just loosen. Then put it back together the way you found it. That's the hard part for most do-it-yourself-ers. While you are at it with the covers off, clean out the top side of the deck with a power washer or shop vac. Then regrease the spindles. Adjust the cover clips to keep them tight by bending as necessary. Don't forget to grease the prop shaft and the front PTO bearing or else the noises from these parts and your wallet will require hearing protection....

Well, I ended up taking the middle spindle off to get the belt off. The gearbox output shaft went thru the middle spindle to the middle blade. Only way I found was to remove the four bolts holding the gearbox plate, then remove, ie. cut, the four spindle bolts off, lift the whole assembly, voila! belt comes right off! No worries!
