Any idea why turning on the headlights would cause the engine to quit on my 955? I bought it with the headlights not working and found the fuse pulled. Replaced fuse and cleaned some connections and the lights work fine as long as the motor's not running.

I think the only electrical thing that would affect a diesel motor after it is started is the fuel cutoff solenoid. Does the 955 shutoff with the key?

There was a thread here very recently involving exactly that problem. The culprit was a bad battery (had a shorted cell). The battery apparently couldn't hold the fuel shutoff solenoid open when the headlights were turned on.

Thanks,

I thought it might be the battery getting weak since I don't recall it doing that when I first fixed the lights a few months ago. The tractor frequently sits a month or two between uses.

I'll try a new battery to see if that does the trick.

I have a 755 that died when lights were turned on. It was a corroded contact on the key ignition switch. It evetuallly burned out leaving the tractor totally dead.
