John Deere 955
My John Deere 955 just died in the field. I finished bush hogging, turned if off to blow off the dust. I went to start it. It fired right up and died in about a second. I get no dash lights at all, though the battery tests fine. It is like there is no battery in it. the key will not even allow the lights to be turned on. Any help would be appreciated.

:welcome: to TBN

Maybe corroded connection on battery cables? check both ends of each cable.

What tests were showing the battery is fine?

Possible mouse nest destroying a critical wire?

Wish you good luck finding the problem.

check the frame end of the ground cable, their famous for having trouble there, don't just look at it, take it loose and clean it

What did you find out?

Check Main Fuse. Should be 40Amp if it's got one and beside the engine. Check fuses in fuse box. Check safety switches. Seat, Clutch and Neutral ones.

Check your seat and PTO safety switches. Exact same situation happened to me on the 770 a few years ago and I found it was the PTO switch. Wiggling it on and off a few times solved the problem. Never had the issue again.

Thanks for the responses everyone! I did not realize I got them. I went out the next morning and it started! However, yesterday, I put it in the barn and as I walked away, I heard something like a fuse go. Now, I have nothing again! Where is the main fuse? I can't find a 40 amp fuse on the tractor. The battery will not take a charge. I had a business trip but am going out to work on it now. Any advice would be appreciated!

UPDATE: I went out to start working on the 955. I disconnected the Neg, and when I went to disconnect the POS, I found it was warm to the touch. Not hot, but just warm. Does that indicate a short somewhere?

that would make me think that current has been flowing. disconnect the battery and charge then reconnect. If you get a spark when reconnecting the battery then I would look into what is drawing the current.
