I bought a circa 1980 JD 950 with manual transmission that I use to mow pasture with a 5 foot rotary cutter. After mowing for awhile the transmission housing gets so hot I can't hold my hand on it. This doesn't seem normal. The hydraulic resevior is full and the fluid is clear. What could be the cause?

My 1050 does the same thing... has since '87 when we got it...

As long as the light on the dash isn't on and the radiator/grills are clear, I just watch it when wearing shorts. Gets a might hot on the lower legs if you bump it. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Its normal for the transmission housings to get to hot to hold your hand on.
