JD 855 Won't start

Hello folks,
I'm new to here but have a problem; I have a JD 855 but cannot seem to get it started. All was fine until I went out to start it a couple of days ago. If it were gas I would say it acts like it isn't getting any fire. Since it's a diesel I am stumped. Battery was 5 years old so I replaced it and that changed nothing. Here is what I have eliminated so far:
1. Battery and terminals- replaced both
2. Filters- just replaced.
3. Fuel- already used 1/2 of the existing tank.
4. Fuses- checked all.

It acts like a bad seat switch but I can't tell if that's the problem or not. Has been super reliable up until the episode. Any help you experts have is much appreciated. If I could start it I would take it to someone reliable to correct the problem. I live in SE Georgia.

Have you read the operator's manual about cold weather starting?
What is the ambient temperature?
Oil weight?
Voltage measured at starter WHILE cranking?
Cranking fast or slow
Have you plugged in the block heater?
Did you hold the clutch down while cranking?

1. Yes. Following the manual.
2. Temp is in the 60's. Not cold. Has been chilly, but not currently.
3. Oil weight is 15-w40
4. Haven't checked VM at starter while cranking. I will tomorrow.
5. Cranking fast. Not dragging. Certainly seems to be turning over plenty.
6. No on the block heater, never used it.
7. HST so no clutch.
I did break loose the nuts at the injector pump and I have fuel there.

Sounds like something out of the ordinary winter start problems. Does it make smoke when the intake manifold heater is not used? Is that manifold heater all electric or does it squirt diesel into the manifold as well?
Valve lash has been checked ?

I think I have isolated the problem. The air heater isn't getting any power. Connections are fine but I'm still tracing the wire to see what's broken. I will clean the relay and holder tomorrow to see if that is the problem. Not even sure if it goes thru that relay. The one mounted on the engine side of the firewall.

" Lots of white smoke " indicates it's getting fuel. And you say it cranks well. I'd suspect the glow plugs aren't working. many of these smaller diesels are not direct injection and require glow plugs to start. If your engine has them then that's what I'd be checking.

Hi, I know this is an old post however did you ever resolve the problem? The reason I ask is that I have exactly the same problem. It's 30 degrees celsius here, so very warm so no cold start issues. Anyway mine cranks very well and almost starts but just won't. I have cranked it for up to 30 seconds at a time over 3-4 minutes and it still won't start. Plenty of white smoke as well.
