I'm looking at an 850. The tractor is 4wd, has a loader with NO power steering. Is this a problem?

If you have never used a loader, then it will not be a problem. If you have used a loader on a tractor with P/S then you will notice how hard it is without it. I had a 650 w/loader and no p/s and used it for 10 years. Now I have a 2520 w/loader and wonder how I did it. JC

Does the tractor have turf tires or ag? I have found that the ag tires steer easier than the turf tire when you have no power steering. Either way the steering is definitely going to be stiff with a load in the bucket. As rolltide says, if you don't know any different, you can cope OK if you learn to steer only if you are rolling. steering while sitting still will be near impossible. Power steering on these tractors was a field installed option, so it would be possible to add it on yours if a kit could be located. I think that deere no longer sells the kit, but you might find one at a junkyard to buy the components. Good Luck!

I have a 950 w/ps. I routinely look on ebay for "deere 950" just to see what may be put up for auction in regard to 950 parts. Recently bought some brake shoes there. Occasionally (maybe once a year) a power steering kit for it will show up. Most things are only there 7-10 days so you have to look regularly. You might get lucky.
