JD 810A

I have this beast of a grass cutting machine, but it is killing me to use it. I love the way it cuts, but it bounces me so bad that the pain in my side is excruciating.

So, I am considering selling it localy, maybe even list it here on TBN.

I have had it since 2008 and I only have a little more than 40 hours on it. It has a 54" deck. It only takes about an hour to cut my 2.5-3 acres each time is why the hours are so low. It is kept in my garage and looks almost like new.

What should I try to sell it for and/or what should I really expect to get out of it.

Obviously, I will still need a lawn mower. So, I am thinking about going with my tractor and a RFM to cut my grass, but I may just buy a mower with bagger. I dont know yet, but I have to get rid of this machine. I probably wont go back with a JD is why I havent talked to my dealer about a trade.

I have a large, heavy lawn roller to even out the bumps.
With a rough lawn, unless you go to larger tire size, the ride will be rough.

Prolly hard not to mow fast with the Z810. Slowing down will help the back too.

Precisely why I have no business owning a sports car. If it goes fast, I feel I have to do it. Besides, the 810 cuts so well even at speed. And, I like to get done in a hurry to sit back and enjoy the smell from the porch!
I know I should slow down, but...its hard to do!

Even going slow(when my side hurs, I have no option), it is still very bumpy.
Compared to my dad's LX280, the 810 is horribly rough. The tractor models are just more smooth and comfy.

I hear ya on the speed. Sold my Buck ATV just for that reason, and for sure don't own a snowmobile or Harley.

How do the tire sizes compare between the Z810 and the LX280? Just curious. Seems the wheelbase would be about the same.

As far as speed, I could go faster with my X485, but too rough. My son was home one summer and wanted to mow. He said how fast do you go, and I thought he was talking rpm. I said WOT. He flew around the 6 acres and was done no time flat.
Then he made the comment about how rough a ride it was. I laughed and said how amused I was at the speed he was going. I usually just roll the lawn in the early springtime when the frost goes out of the ground. Presses things a bit flatter that way.

Does your 810 have the suspension option for the seat. Have drove a couple with it and does make a different machine out of them ride wise. Pretty easy to put in still uses the original seat.

No, I do not have the suspension package. Will it really make a difference?

I think the biggest difference between the tractor style LX280 and the 810 that makes the 280 more comfy:
1-4 pnuematic tires
2-springs under the seat
3-frame that allows the front axle to move
4-sitting postion

The 810 frame is solid and allows absolutely no flex. I have drove up my trailer ramp with only one front wheel touching.
As far as the tires, the back tires of both the 810 and 280 are about the same, but the front wheels on the 810 are hard and small compared to the 280.
You would think that the 810's weight(1300+/- lbs) would make a difference since I am sure it is probably twice the weight of the 280.

I just dont know what to do!
