i have posted 1 other time. my dad just bought a 770 and i was just curious about the machine, the do's and don'ts the good and bad. it is 4x4 with hoe, loader, post hole digger and box scraper.i have used a little over the weekend getting used to the controls.he was the first one to get it stuck in some soft mud. he thought he could lift the front with the bucket but was wrong. i guess the weight of the tractor and the hydrastatic suction of the mud was too much for the little guy. i got on and put in reverse, low range stretched the hoe out and pulled it out on 2 tries. any info is appreciated.

buckrrt, your best bet is to hang around here, read various posts then ask more specific questions. You're certainly on the right track in trying to learn what to do/not do with you dad's new machine.

The 770 is the model right before my 790. Identical but a few less horsepower. You've probably got the 70 loader and 7 hoe, just like mine. It's a great little tractor that will serve you well.

If you are new to tractors, realize there are some major safety concerns. The biggies are roll-overs and PTO shaft entanglements. Do some reading in the safety forum. Did you get manuals with the tractor? If so, read them, if not find some. You can get them at a dealer, on Ebay or through the JD web-site. You may be able to download from the web-site.

Other than that, stick around here and soak up what you need to become a serious tractor operator /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

It's been a couple months now. How's the tractor doing for you and your dad?
I just stumbled on this post. I have a 770 and have no problems lifting the front end of the tractor with the loader.

I've owned a 98 770 since May last year. A great tractor. A contractor friend has a 1994 770 with a backhoe. He dropped the front wheels of his into a ditch and the FEL would not lift the front end. He could if he curled the bucket.

I can get my FEL to lift the front end without a problem.

They are great basic machines as you know by now. Not fancy but stone reliable.
