If you have a bad pump, it may be a hydro gear pump... They're a fairly simple rebuild.. price of new ones can be $$$ and aftermarket aren't reliable..

Not really, Simplicity is the same way. For Simplicity its not the angle of the V in the shape of the belt, but the make up of the belt. They commonly had very twisting mule drives to the mower decks that put extra stress on the backbone of the belt internally. Run a standard or even a Kevlar belt from Rural King ect and it does not last. Run OEM Simplicity and lasts many seasons. Same for Ma Deere, between double V used on may of the ZTR mower decks(and some newer tractor decks), to the make up and shape of the belt. John Deere is SUPER protective of anything that deals with their machines, be it the lowly lawn tractor or the million doller combine. You can get away with non OEM belts on both, but the non OEM will not last as long and some are a total pain in the ass to change. I would rather spend the $$ on OEM vs be laying in the grass changing a broken or shredded belt. For some, down time is not a big deal. But to others it gets into how much $$ they made that day. Been wrenching on them professionaly for over 30 years, including at both a JD and a Simplicity dealership. Certified master tech till about 6 years ago when I went to work at the local auto factory for the pay/benefits package.
