JD 5410 input

I am looking to purchase a 98 JD 5410 with 520 loader. It is 2wd and open station and has 1700 hours, appears to be in great shape in the pictures

. I will be using this for general land cleanup on 54 acres, bush hogging, auger work for fence line, grapple work, etc. Later down the road I may do some haying, talking 10+ years down the road.

My limited understanding of this tractor is that the hydraulic remote svc are somewhat strange and may no be ideal for my uses.

For the grapple I prefer a third function switch, can this be added?

For implements that need hydraulic hookups, can these be added? What all is involved?

From the picture provided by the seller, it appears that any remotes that are in place are occupied by the loader

I think you will kick yourself for not getting 4wd.

That hydraulic matter could be a hassle and expensive. How is the loader controlled? Not by SCV levers I hope.

You will have to add another service or unhook something to use a rear HYD implement. Rendering the loader useless.

I'm guessing the two services are being pushed and that supplies the loader valve with pressure to operate?
This is ok as long as the loader is in operation, but tractors with this set up will be operated with the service engaged and eventually cause weak HYD problems.
I would have the loader plumbed to operate on it's on supply first. And I would question the integrity of the HYD system IF IT's been operated the way I'm speculating it has been.

+1 on needing 4WD, if you have a loader. You can add a third SVC for the grapple over use a diverter. My neighbor has a 5410 4WD and he is very happy with it and never has had a problem. Bought new and he is hard on equipment. Uses it almost daily to feed his cattle, has 3,200 hrs (original clutch still on it). Make sure you get the parking stands for the loader. This appears to be a bare bones tractor, that is the original purchaser went with as few as options as possible (or the dealer had a price fighter on the lot for advertising). Nothing wrong with that so long as you are aware, I would imagine it also has a collar shift tranny. If it does not meet your needs you should walk away, because of the lack of options it is probably overpriced. To much time has passed for the kits to be reasonably priced (it wasn't that expensive to mid hyd in the late 90's, about 1k or so) but since it is 20 years later the kits may be hard to come by. That said nothing wrong with a low hour 10 series pretty good tractor you just need to look for a better equipped unit. Good luck

Thanks. Like i said, general duties, cleanup, bush hogging and maybe an auger and hay equip down the road.

My neighbor has a 10 ft JD heavy duty rotary cutter/brush hog on his 5410 and it works fine. At one time he used it for haying and it worked fine, you just need to match the PTO HP with the equipment you purchase.

Right. I understand that. With this particular tractor ill have to install additional svc or unhook the loader. That just doesn't seem efficient.
