We have a 1993 John Deere 535 baler and we are unable to keep the belts tight. Anyone have any advise? Thanks!

Welcome to TBN .
Are you useing OEM belts ? Is the tension is set to mfr's specs ? If you replaceing with automotive type belts they wont last , they stretch too much , way to elastic IMO . You can also use the A n B type machine belts Gates with green strips .

Also check for burrs , misalignment ,improper tension, pulley wobble , proper belt.
How is the condition of your pump ?

Are the belts hydraulic tension? If so you may have a cylinder bypassing.

Since belts are tightened by hyd tension I'll guess either the tension valve or tension cylinders are leaking internally. Tension cylinders can be checked by individually removing tension cylinder bottom hose then apply pressure similar to closing rear gate. Not many drops of oil should exit open cylinder fitting.
