JD 5320 Fuel Injectors

I have a 2003, John Deere 5320 and it smokes really bad at startup. I've never had a problem with getting it started and it runs great. I believe my injectors need to be replaced. There is a strong odor of raw fuel in the exhaust. How difficult is it to get the injectors removed?

A lot of smoke with a strong odor of raw fuel at startup could be due to some other things as well- worn engine with low compression, malfunctioning or defective turbocharger, injection pump out of time or calibration. I would start out by checking compression, particularly if your tractor has several thousand hours or more.

mo1 makes some good suggestions.
I would also try the easy things first.. Have you checked engine oil level. Could be fuel getting into engine oil and being sucked in through valve cover breather if so equipped. If oil is high check mechanical lift pump diaphragm or possibly injection pump.

How many hours are on this machine??

How many hrs showing on your tractors speed/hr meter? Has any diesel fuel injector cleaner been added to fuel tank lately. Has tractor been put to work getting engine temp to operating range lately? It's possible cold start advance function isn't operating correctly on your tractor engine.

My JD 4255 has original injectors although designed differently by Bosch that were checked last yr & reinstalled when I had engine overhauled @ 11,400 hrs on speed/hr meter.
