Brad,

I have a 5200, which is same frame, lower HP (40 versus about 50 for the 5300, If I recall). Bought new in 1994, with loader. Have about 1100 hours on it, have not had any problems. Use for bushhogging, including clearing some pretty overgrown fields, drive way maintenance, removing stumps, yard/earth work when built house and storage building, etc.

I added a grapple following ice storms in 2009, and tractor handles it well.

Where are you, and what do you plan on using it for?

I had a 1994 5300 with MFWD and FEL. Sold it near 3000 hours and replaced it with larger cabbed tractor. Good tractor. Basic by todays standards. Had a dry clutch that I replaced at 2000-2500 hours which is typical for dry clutch, especially on a loader. It was a great tractor for going through mud. Relatively big front tires and rear tires for the size/weight and reasonable clearance. We irrigate and need to go though standing water at times. If it got stuck, could push itself out with the FEL. Had to replace the dash at 2700 hours because hour meter quit working. Good, all purpose utility tractor. Paint was not the best. It was about the time, manufactures had to go to more environmentally friendly paint and the adhesion was not the best. Paint would occassionally flake off.

My neighbour has a 5300, and i have a 5310. His 5300 has 5250+ hours on the clock and its still going no overhaul yet. Just basic service. His paint is starting / or is flaking. My 5310 had to get a new dry clutch too due to heavy loader work.
