JD 5105 Alternator Overcharging

I'm posting this for my brother, whose JD 5105 with 10 hrs has had a problem with the alternator evidently overcharging or continuously charging the battery. The dealer is coming out next week to replace the alternator, battery and some cables that were damaged with battery acid.

Anyone else had this problem, or related problems, and did they get fixed? Anything else he should be looking at?

How sure are you that the tractor is over charging?

I ask that because you will find several threads where the problem is really a poor quality JD battery. Many of us with 790s have experienced this problem.

In my case the dealer practically fell over himself to get the situation corrected. New battery, sheet metal and paint.
