JD 4840 hydraulic light

Hydraulic light comes on when clutch pedal is pressed on my JD 4840. What would cause this?

How long since hyd filters were changed and sump screen checked/cleaned??

Filters changed and sump cleaned recently. Can start tractor and let run, light does not come on until clutch is pressed.

I'd suggest to check pressure with a gauge(155-165 psi) Which trans(QR or PS)?

Tractor is a has a PS tranny.

What is the history of the problem? Does transmission operate normally in all gears? Have any parts been recently replaced? Does light come on in all gears when clutch is depressed?

had this problem and it was simply the clutch linkage touching a bare spot in wire going to sender

Tractor shifts thru all gears, although 1st is sometimes sluggish. No parts recently replaced. Light started coming on this past season. I just noticed that light does not illuminate until clutch is depressed. will check for wire shortage.

Checked pressure at clutch valve and it was 160 psi and dropped to zero when clutch was pressed. I still can force light to come on by pressing clutch pedal, I can force light to cut off by engaging PTO on and back off.
