Backhoe JD 48 Backhoe

/ JD 48 Backhoe #11
This is a follow up to my post on 12-9-01. The backhoe mounts on the 70 series are completely different than the 4000 series. Tony's post talks about how the 4000 series backhoes mount on brackets as opposed to the 70 series which was a subframe. I was hoping the two were compatible but not so. Since I'm going to pass on the backhoe, anyone near the Lake George, NY area looking for a JD48, theres one for sale.

Here is one way to keep the stabilizer rams from collasping when hoe is stored. Take a piece of schd. 40 pvc pipe with and id close to ram shaft diameter and rip in two on a table saw.
Cut to extended shaft lengt desired and clamp both half's to
shaft with two rad hose clamps. You may want to set length BEFORE ripping pipe in half.

Regarding the leakdown, depending on the serial # of your tractor, you may have a problem with the rockshaft valve. Our dealership has replaced approximately 6 of these valves in the past year, so if your serial number is under -300000, quite possibly you have a rockshaft valve problem. If you out of warranty, ask the dealer you purchased the tractor from to inquire about a John Deere Special Allowance, because this is a very expensive repair.
