Oil & Fuel JD 450G Dozer: Transmission Fluid Level

Just picked up an older 450G crawler (direct drive) for the farm and the previous owner forgot to bring the Operator's Manual. I am new to this machine.

While waiting on it to show up in the mail, I started going over the detail to make sure it is in shape to go to work.

My question:

Is the transmission fluid level check done with the unit level and engine off or does it need to be idling and warmed up?

From the looks of the transmission case in the pic you sent, probably just the static level on the dipstick with the engine off is all that is necessary for a valid check?

Do you agree? (Hopefully my op manual will arrive shortly!)

iirc ON MY 550 THERE IS A HOT AND A COLD MARK BUT I'LL HAVE TO GO CHECK THE MACHINE SOMETIME.

If it shows between the marks on the stick that should be good enough to try that puppy out.

Got between the marks and the test drive went very well.

Hygard JDM20A is recommended, but that appears to be an obsolete designator.

Anyone know the number of the fluid that took its place?
