the first 4300 that is pictured was owned by a utility co . the operator broke it in half once before that and broke the rear axle housings several times , and yes he did it while using the backhoe attachment .

Are you the new owner? Sounds like you have talked to the seller.

I wonder if he was using the factory subframe for the hoe....

Looks like ITEM #130312019641 sold for $6100. I hope the new owner
checks with TBN!

I wouldn't have thought it would go for a price that high.

No I am not the new owner , but I have worked on it in the past . The 4300 did not have a subframe for the 48 hoe , at least this one didn't . It just had 2 plates that bolted to the rear axle on either side , not a very good setup imo . That machine was wore out except for the engine

I have seen that setup with the 2 green plates on the the sides of the
axle housings. It does not seem strong enough to avoid breaking the
tractor in half. And (as I recently found out) the housings are aluminum,
not steel or iron.

A year or so ago the 48 hoe alone would have sold for $5000. The buyer
got a very good deal...for parts or to fix.

WILLIAMBOS: the eBay link you posted is the 2nd one I referred to above.
For some reason, the TBN moderators do not like eBay links posted....so
I just use the item number and paste the pix.

Thanks DFKRUG.. Do not want the mods mad at me. :)

This is one of the reasons why we will NOT be putting a loader/BH on our 1523, so that It will be around a loooooong time. :)

The JD in the link only had 880.9 hours on it. Mus have been abused?

The MMM uses a hydraulic cylinder to raise/lower the deck, so you need the 3rd SCV (rear remote) option. There are used decks around, but make SURE it includes all the attaching hardware for your machine because those can get very expensive if it's not included. Expect to pay 1000$ to 2500$ for a 72" deck.

Thanks Kenny,

I really need to do a lot of reading before i get started... Like i said, i have never checked into buying one but i think I'm going to.... But i don't know if i want to buy used from ebay.

I don't know how big your MF1523 is, but a properly sized loader and hoe
could work on it without damage, but they both need good subframes
and anything can be abused.

With these 4300s, the aluminum rear axle castings run about $640 ea
from JD, and one of mine is broken. I will weld it up rather than buy a
new one. Still, it seems like a poor design decision to go w/ Al.

Our 1523 has the aluminum castings, so another reason no loader/bh. And no real need for one anyway. 1528 is cast.

I seen some nice mowing decks.

If you put a belly mowing deck on a 4300, do you need to add something else raise to up & down??__:confused:

I have never looked into buying a deck for mine but would like to find out some more info. about one.

Since I bought my 4200 new, I have the video showing how to install the MMM mower and it looks like a PITA! Besides the stuff KennyD listed, you will need the mid-PTO to drive the mower.

How many acres do you need to mow and what type of vegetation are you looking to cut with the mower? For a lot less money than a MMM for your 4300, you could get a 100 series lawn tractor. That's what I did.

I have two 100 series riding mowers.

I have 4+ acres of fenced in yard/grass that i mow, and on the outside of my fence where my hunting property starts there is about 3 acres of grass, and then there is weeds where the mountain starts...I cut that with a bush hog & i let that grow up a little high.

I need to do a lot of research on getting one mounted, and i really don't care how much it would cost....I like the idea of being able to cut my grass with my tractor & having my BH and FEL on.

We haven't been able to go camping this year yet, because our daughter has been sick.

Sometimes when we go camping we are gone 1 to 2 weeks at a time and we do that several times a year, and i would have to come home & take the BH off and put on the bush-hog to cut the grass.

*Where did you get the video ???

The VHS video came with the tractor when I bought it. For all I know it may be available from JD Publications. The part number is LVU11043 and is 57:00 minutes in length.

With the mower deck mounted, you'll lose a lot of ground clearance, even with it raised that it may hangup when you are doing other chores depending on your terrain. Plus you will need to remove it to change the HST filter and suction screen, assuming you have a HST, and there are one or two zerks under there that will be inaccessible with the MMM deck on.

Now I could get interested in a MMM if the new drive-on/drive-off decks would work on our 4200 - 4400 series tractors; but they don't as I inquired with my dealer about that.

Thanks about the info. for the video.

OK i kind of figured that i would loose ground clearance, and my yard & the other 3 acres on the outside of my fence is level ground.....Taking it off to do service on the tractor should be no problem for me, and on my two mowers i take the decks off several times a season so i can sharpen the blades, and clean out from under my deck....But i know this type will probably be a lot more work to take off.

Yes a drive-on/drive-off would really be nice:D....and they should have made one for our tractors.

Thanks for all the info!

You're welcome Bill. The 72" MMM for our tractors is no doubt significantly heavier than the 48" on our smaller toys. If you get a MMM for your 4300, be sure you have a level concrete surface to remove and install it.
