Kubota and John Deere Tractors
Guys,

I was looking to buy a New Holland Boomer 3045 w/cab, but the CVT on the tractor has got me worried. If I spend the money, I would like to keep the tractor for at least twenty years if possible. Now I am looking at a JD 3720 instead. I know the JD 3720 tractor is smaller than the Boomer 3045, but it has the right size chassis and horsepower for my property which is 26 acres. Could you let me know if the quotes I have below are decent or high and which quote you would go with?

Quote 1:
John Deere 3720 w/cab and 300X FEL is $31,700.00
Trade-in value for my New Holland TC34DA w/FEL is $12,500.00

Quote 2:
John Deere 3720 w/cab and 300CX loader is $32,900.00.
Trade-in value for my New Holland TC34DA w/FEL is $12,500.00

Thanks,
John

So you are looking at roughly 20,400 Difference?
After having a 300X loader on my 3520, I would get the CX for sure without a doubt. I was not impressed by the X loader at all. It is one of the reasons I traded. Wouldn't lift what I thought it should have and didn't go very high. Spend the extra and get the CX

I am happy to see that the quotes are actually that cheap. I thought they would be more around the $40,000 range. What options are you getting with the tractor? Are you getting the two sets of mid SCVs, Power Beyond, the additional rear SCV? I am sure there are a lot more options available than just the SCVs. Which tires.

Pretty much, the only thing you are asking with the info provided above is whether the 300CX is worth the extra $1,100. I haven't operated one, or even looked at one yet, but isn't the big difference between the X and the CX that the CX can be taken off and put back on pretty easily. As far as I am concerned, that is worth the extra $1,100 if you see yourself needing to take it on and off frequently.

Sorry man, they come off the same. You are thinking of the 200 series loader, all the 300 and 400 series are quick attach.

Here is a link to the specs-page 6-7 has the info on the loaders: Implements & Accessories - Product Catalog

We all like to spend someone elses money.:D I would recommend you look hard at a 4520 400cx cab tractor, wider with better stability and larger tires. I use mine in fairly tight quarters all the time and it manuevers very well. If you later get more involved with some of the larger tasks on the 26 acres you will be glad you moved up in size a little. Trading up can be expensive.

I agree. I've owned both the 3k series and 4k series. I would definitely consider the 4k series as it works MUCH better with 6ft implements.

I stand corrected. Looks like the only difference between the two loaders is their abilities. The OP is going to have to take page 6-7 and decide for himself. For me, I would still go with the 300CX if I intended on keeping the tractor for a while.

Agree. My dealer told me that he has never had a customer complain that the tractor they bought was too big but had several customers say the tractor they bought turned out to be too small.

I agree as well. The 3720 has a very short wheelbase and narrow track. The wheelbase on the 4520 is 71.5" if I recall. Not long either. I had a 50hp tractor that size and it was a small tractor that was very maneuverable. I currently have a 3320 and I like it around the horse barn but it is rough if I go out in a field. If I get the property I am trying to buy I will go bigger.

I think you should really be looking at 4 cylinder machines. The NH 3040,3045,3050, JD 4000,4120,4320 all are 4 cyl. You should be looking one frame size larger with that acreage.
Good luck.

Guys,

I looked at the 4000 series and the Boomer 3040 2010 model (not the Boomer 40 2011 model). I also made the decision not to go with a cab. While I love the cab, I just do not use the tractor enough to justify the additional cost. It looks like I will be going with the Boomer 3040 (one chassis size up like you said). I was able to trade my 2006 TC34D w/240TL FEL, 918H 71" flail mower (nine years old) and Meteor 68" Snowblower (eight years old) for a new 2010 Boomer 3040 w/250TL FEL (no cab - hydro model - not CVT model), one rear remote, turf tires, 84" Woods PRD8400 and 75" Metoer Snowblower with hydro chute and wings (dealer will make the plate wings for the extra inches of the turf tires) with a $13k difference. Unfortunately, the JD dealer was at $12,780 for the JD 3720 without any implements or added remote and could not come close for a 4120. I real like the JDs and I think they are great tractors, but the deal just was not there. Maybe I can get one next time. Thanks for all the info and help.

When you moved up one frame size, you pick up more hydraulic lift capacity and lift height which is something I really needed. I'm a Hydro guy, I've shifted all the gears I care to in my lifetime. My 3040 is a bull in Range 1 - turtle mode. Having the button on the FEL control grip to jump to Rabbit mode is really nice when you are working a pile of gravel or dirt. I have not complaints on my set up. My tractor is the 2010 model too. Sounds like your dealer really took good care of you as well. I have one rear remote with controls and one rear set of hookups for my Back Hoe. I'm having a second set of Remotes put on for a Hydraulic Top Link, so I can have my Grapple live and working up front and my Top Link active in the back. It's good to hear you stepped up a size, you will need it on your property for tree and field management. It's not easy living in the country but it sure if fun. We'd love to see some photos of your new set up!
