JD 322 ignition module testing

I think the best one is working on a Honda atv and having some issue and per the service manual says to install tester such and such, and if the reading is outside of the normal range confirm the tester is working correctly. So if you can't trust the tester why should you trust the results.

Checked the coil again and, per manual, it tests fine. Other than resistance values there's no other indicators for a bad coil.

Does the manual have a resistance measurement for coil to case?

Glad to hear that your machine is running again.

a coil can be bad even though the resistance is right on.. dielectric breakdown can occur, which would only show up in actual operation.. the thing is, he said he swapped coils, and had the same problem, now, he replaced the coil with a new one, and it works fine, that's a real puzzler!..

You say "puzzler", I said "!@#$%^&*" and on and on.

IF, and I emphasize "IF", I remember correctly I switched the plug wire from the cylinder that wasn't firing to one that was and vice versa. The result was I could pull the plug wire from the previously non-firing cylinder, see/hear the spark BUT no change in the rpm of the engine. When I pulled the wire from the previously firing cylinder I saw nor heard nothing and the rpm still stayed the same. In other words the engine was running on (1) cylinder and not that rough. I didn't think the throttle was set that high but evidently it was.

Looking back on it now, at that point I should have went ahead, took my chances and replaced the coil. Truthfully I seem to digest things better after walking away from the problem rather than sitting there staring at it. The bad part about this is I'm still "digesting" at 2 o'clock in the morning staring at the bedroom ceiling.

I sent you a PM, I'm looking for a Transistor (Ignition) Module!

I have a JD 322 with an Yanmar 3TG66 engine. Was running fine and then just shut down. Would not start back. Waited about 30 minutes and it fired right up. Ran for about 15 minutes and shut down again. Did this about 2 more times. If this was a traditional lawnmower engine, I would guess ignition coil. With this type of engine with 3 coils, I am a little at a loss. Thanks for allowing me to jump into your conversation. Any help is much appreciated! I bought the manual for this engine, but only covers removing and replacing parts, not testing/troubleshooting.
