JD 317 steering box

Does anyone know if there is an adjustment on the John Deere 317 steering box to adjust the play? It is really a PIA when mowing when you have to turn the wheel 3/4 of a turn before the wheels turn.

I had a 140 years back and it seems to me that there was an adjustment. The steering box on the 317 looks the same but I can't see an adjustment.

You need to loosen #20 the lock nut on # 19 then turn it in to take up the slack. If it is wore real bad you may need to replace it. Grease up the gearbox real good while your in there.
