Do any of you have a JD 3032 or 3038 with a MX5 rotary cutter? If so, I realize the tractor will have the hp to turn the blades, but does it have the strength to easily lift the medium duty MX5 cutter or is the MX5 too heavy? Do you think it would be better to stick with a light duty cutter with this tractor because of the fairly light lifting capacity of the 3ph?

:welcome: to TBN

I think you will be ok, if you have front weights.. such as FEL.

But the Deere dealer and Deere site should have the info for the correct match with the 3038.

The 3ph lift capacity is 1356 #, which does seem slight for a 38hp tractor.
My 32 hp JD 4300 is 2200 #

The MX5 is only 823 lbs. I have a new King Kutter 5' which lists @ 750 and my 3032 picks it up with no problem even with my M I L riding the back wheel. :)

I have 3520 cab tractor & MX5. Don't know specs on models you list; may be similar? I don't have any trouble lifting MX5 - do have to lower it slowly. It's heavy duty mower - some stories of gearbox issues but I have had no problems.
