Buying Advice JD 2640

I was looking at a John Deere 2640 tractor which has had some extensive work done on it. I had agreed to a price and the dealer delivered the tractor. No money has changed hands. I was looking at the tractor in morew detail and could not find the tractor dta plate on the frame. I did find the spot whereit was suppose to be, but it is not there. The 2 studs are still in the holes.

Is there anyway to trace the tractors history by the egine data plate?

Welcome to TBN, DBATES. Your local dealer might be able to access the serial number for the tractor via the engine SS - unless the engine is a completely different install - after the tractor was manufacturered.

You might be able to gather additional info from the differential/transaxle SS or if you've got a loader - the SS for the loader as well.
